How do I fix No 5v Supply to MAP?

Hello, I have a 2002 Volkswagen GTI 337 and my check engine light is on. So I used one of those check engine light devices to check what exactly is wrong. I got this code saying “No 5V Supply to MAP”. I was researching it and I found out MAP is the Manifold Airtake Pressure sensor. How do I fix this? FYI: I read up that it is most likely the wiring to the MAP sensor not the sensor it self’s fault.

The Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor is supposed to receive a 5 volt “reference” signal from the car’s computer, not the other way around as helpful bob suggested. It is likely the problem is with the wire itself or the connector, especially at the MAP sensor end.

Sometimes simply removing the connector, cleaning the terminals, and reconnecting can fix the problem, so that’s definitely worth a try first. Or if you happen to have a hi-impedance voltmeter, you could just back-probe that wire at the MAP, and see if you have 5 volts there. If not, you would want to check the terminal at the computer that this signal comes from, and the wire in between.

You would need a hi-impedance voltmeter to check any of these computer-related voltage readings, as an old-fashioned meter will not give an accurate reading. And you would need to back-probe the wires/terminals for these tests, so you can check it while it is all hooked up.

If the 5 volt signal is present at the computer end, but not at the MAP end, then you can be pretty sure the wire is broken. You could also check the wire with an ohmmeter, by measuring resistance from one end of the wire to another while unplugged at both ends.

If the 5 volt signal is present when you back-probe the MAP connector end of the reference signal terminal, then you know it must be a connector problem.

The MAP sensor itself can also be checked with either the ohmmeter while unplugged, or the hi-impedance voltmeter while plugged in, by checking between the reference and ground terminals, as well as checking between the reference and “return” terminals.

If you check across the first 2 terminals, you should get a full 5 volt reading. If you check the latter 2 terminals with a vacuum pump hooked up, the values should change as you apply various amounts of vacuum to the MAP’s port.
